That is a beautiful story and message. Your art and illustrations are always perfectly paired with your message, not to mention amazing. Thank you for sharing with us!
I always get a boost of inspiration when I receive your newsletter, that comes in the morning, over a hot coffee and warm cuddly cat on my lap. Much thanks for staring my day sunny 🙏
I love your newsletter, Kelcey! And proud to be a paid subscriber. There's always something here in both words and images that strikes a chord. Here's to all us Luna Moths!
I want to hug Luna so hard! I’ve felt like her so often…I wish I could tell her to keep shining her light…to keep her hopes and spirits up. Such a beautiful story, Kelcey!
Right? As I said to someone else, when I’ve got back-to-back conferences all afternoon, I don’t always have the energy, but I felt I owed it to Luna who’d brought so much to the class!
That’s beautiful, thank you. It is true that it’s easier to tear ourselves down than build ourselves up. I’m not sure if it’s cultural — how did we get here? This gets to change. Thank you for being part of the change. Where do you teach?
Thanks, Lisa! And yes, it’s totally easier to focus on the negative. Or we just don’t see the positive. I couldn’t believe this student didn’t really what a STAR she is in the classroom! I teach English and creative writing at Indiana University South Bend.
Midwest culture contributes to selling oneself short, doesn't it (though that's not the only factor in our students). Humility has its grace, but not seeing oneself too small is indeed an issue. I'm looking forward to hearing about the discussion you have with your students around this newsletter (if you plan to do so). Many thanks for these inspiring stories, Kellcey.
As a writing teacher, I feel this so much! Even if I have just one Luna in my class, all those weeks of prep, teaching, grading are 110% worth it. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and lovely art with us. ♥️
I get this! This is so wonderful!
Go Luna!

Thanks, Andy! It's especially nice to hear this from an illustrator!

I appreciate it so much, Alice! ❤️

I know! All I could do was offer some tissues, but she got the message and it was such a special moment. Thank you!
The moments with students when you can show them their awesomeness are so special 🥹

And, this made me feel like crying happy tears. Good on you.
Aww thanks! (I actually cried a little bit while writing it.)
Another lovely post! You bring so much joy to all you touch!
PS: How could I be anything but a "Founding Member". :)
One might even say a "Founding FATHER" 😂
Thanks so much, Dad! Love you! ❤️🥰
Yikes! This exchange between you and your dad: very moving.
(I’ve told myself to man up).
LOVE this. Lucky, lucky students. It makes me miss teaching.
Thanks so much, Barb. I still learn from you in all sorts of ways, btw.
What a beautiful story. I love your drawings! Thank you for this ray of sunshine for today!
Thanks so much, Gayle!

It's so important to tell people what you see in them. Even if it seems small it might mean the world to them. Thanks for the reminder!
Yep, people in general, and our students in particular! Thanks, Mitchell!
This is so, so beautiful
Thank you, Jenna! And thanks for restacking!
wow love this story. how we see ourselves vs how others see us
Thank you, John! (BTW, I emailed you a few days ago and would love to send you a copy of one of my books! 😊)

Thanks, Anne! Yes, Midwest culture is certainly part of it. I don't know if I'll talk about this with my students...hmmm...
(Great to see you this week, btw!)
