Which made me wonder:
I often feel like the luna moth—grateful, weepy, taken by surprise, feeling seen—here on Substack, where people go out of their way to respond to something I’ve written, to share it with others, or to say something encouraging. I’ve even got folks who have signed up for PAID subscriptions to my FREE newsletter. Look below at the beautiful message I recently received with a pledge from
. ❤️But the fact is, I never actually activated payments, meaning that people who tried to pay couldn’t do so. So I’ve now updated my settings to accept optional paid subscriptions. This doesn’t give access to additional content since the newsletter is free, but if you opt for/upgrade to a paid subscription before July 1, 2024*, I will gratefully mail you a signed copy of one of my books.

*I’ve edited this post to add a deadline for receiving a copy of one of my books. I’ve had a wonderful response, but Substack makes it hard to keep track of communications, etc.
Thanks for reading The Habit of Art by Kelcey Ervick. I love writing and drawing these posts and am grateful to everyone who follows along. If you like this newsletter, you might like my graphic memoir, The Keeper, which is 40% off at the place that rhymes with Wham-a-zon. If you’re interested in making comics and text/image works, check out my edited craft book, The Field Guide to Graphic Literature. I have other books too! Thanks for your support!
I get this! This is so wonderful!
Go Luna!
That is a beautiful story and message. Your art and illustrations are always perfectly paired with your message, not to mention amazing. Thank you for sharing with us!
