I’v already been through about twelve iterations of my letter to James Thurber. I want to help your new ‘stack step out in the right foot! And…I’m a little nervous to approach Mr. Thurber directly. What if they have Substack in Cartoonist Heaven?
Fine! Clonk me over the head with Thurburian wisdom! I’ll have this 700 word piece to you in about 2032. No wait, give me another year. 2034. But then, as Mark Twain may have said: “Better to lean too far forward than too far backward.”
This dead author is such a beautiful woman! And this post is so exciting! I am lucky to be the fortunate recipient of a SIGNED copy of this book, along with an original K.E. postcard, after becoming a paid subscriber (wow how long ago..? many thanks Kelcey 😊)
However, I must embarrassedly admit-- I have not yet read it, due to all the other words and commitments and distractions that always call. BUT I will now put it at the top of the list.
ALso- I'm so excited about dead authors now! I have some faves. I'm inspired... Perhaps I'll come up with a dead author letter of my own. Can't wait to see this project unfold!
Hi Karen! Yes, isn't she beautiful? She was also intelligent and passionate and devoted to literature. Your KE collection is growing! 😂 I hope you'll be inspired to write a letter to a dead author one day!

I just wrote a long and lovely comment on this post Kelcey, and it has disappeared...!! I will try to retrieve it from the dark hole of my memory...
Oh noooo!
Excited about Dead Letters and enjoying all of the work that has come out of your class.
Thanks so much, Aimee! It was a pretty amazing group of creators in the class. I hope you'll pitch a letter sometime!
