Stephen Fry actually wrote a really good piece about sleep and sleep trackers: https://stephenfry.substack.com/p/enjoy-the-honey-heavy-dew-of-slumber

(SPOILER ALERT: they're all bogus)

I hit a paywall, but I have no doubt about the bogusness!

When I check mine in the morning, and it was a bad night, I think that affects how much energy I imagine I'll have for the day.....

Ugh yes I hate when my watch tells me I slept bad; it almost feels like my watch is calling me stupid. I wish I had more data on things like how many birds I saw or how many cats I petted this year. How many times I said "I love you" to my partner. There's so many other things that don't involve telling me I slept bad

It was a great class, thank you!

I am with you on this data deluge. I always wonder - what are people DOING with that data? Is it helping them make significant health upgrades? It seems to stress people out.

Cynthia! It was so great to meet you yesterday! I hope we can connect again.

And yes, I want to DISCONNECT from this data!

Yes, excellent points. We're smashed with wrong data. Get rid your dumb phones, folks. Liberation is around the corner. Breathe.

"sinister Santa Claus" 🤣 I feel the same way about my Garmin. Last week I didn't wear it a few days because it was dead and lost in my luggage after vacation. I felt completely naked! But also, I realized the data is only interesting or useful when I use it for its intended purpose - tracking my runs...but since I no longer run competitively or try to optimize performance, do I even need that? 🤔

I do like tracking my steps when I'm on vacation and actually walking a lot! But I don't like wearing my watch when I run because I don't like sweating on it! 😂 (I don't run competitively!)

I love this! I have found that I can get an hour of Stand by vigorously petting my cat for a minute (the right cat, the one who likes it, so I don’t lose an arm.)

I had a Fitbit for a while and had the same feeling: do I really need this thing on my wrist to tell me I had a bad night's sleep? I KNOW I had a bad night's sleep! I can feel it! I stopped using the thing.

I’d rather get theses statistics:

You visited with people who always say, “Let’s hang out sometime.”

You completed a project on your never-ending to-do list.

You asked your aging relative to share a memory from their youth.

You saw this many hummingbirds in the garden.

You noticed this many flowers in your garden.

You write this many letters by hand.

You mean it's possible to hang out and not only say "let's hang out"?! I'm so inspired! And asking an aging relative to share a memory? So good! Thanks for sharing these!, Rachielle!

Oooh I love this! What a great and thought-provoking post. I don’t track my sleep anymore bc it stresses me out and actually puts the thought in my head that I should feel terrible even when I don’t…love the pics. Someday I’ll be at one of your classes!

Such a great workshop yesterday!

I’d like to track cooking new recipes, reading books, watching basketball with my sons and husband, snuggling our Scottish terrier…and how much I’m avoiding the news.
