Dear Friends,
It’s publication day for my graphic memoir, The Keeper!
You can read an excerpt that went live today, “On Falling in Love with Goalkeeping,” at Lit Hub! It features me practicing my catching technique with Days of Our Lives on TV, the goalkeeper who first started “ladies’ football” (aka women’s soccer) in 1881, and fellow writer-goalkeepers, Vladimir Nabokov and Albert Camus.
I would appreciate it if you would share a link, tell a friend, or buy The Keeper at Bookshop, Amazon, BN, or your favorite local shop today. I’m also available for book clubs and talks and readings and class visits, and even for giant Title IX celebrations like the one I’m off to today at Arizona State U featuring Briana Scurry!
The last few weeks
The Keeper is getting released two weeks later than planned, so I have already done a couple of events that were scheduled long ago for a different release date, and it’s been such a joy to connect with people. I got to go to my alma-mater, Xavier University, where I was a goalkeeper decades ago, and I not only got to talk to ALL the women athletes about Title IX and my experiences growing up in girls’ sports…
I got to reconnect with some of former teammates, who came out for the event!
Last week, I got to share a book launch at Ball State University with Jill Christman, a writer I deeply admire, and to have meals and chats with other friends in Muncie. Be sure to check out Jill’s new essay collection, If This Were Fiction, which I’m teaching in my creative nonfiction workshop: so good!
Thank you for your support today and always!
